At the Wheelwright's Arms, Matfield
Dennis Silk meets the current Matfield cricket side

The 120th birthday conference was the largest and most successful event we have organised in the five years of the SSF's existence.
Speakers at the morning conference were Max Egremont and Dennis Silk, and the session was chaired by Phil Carradice.
Among those present at the day's events were Margi and Lucy, two of the daughters of Sassoon's great friend, Edmund Blunden.    As yet there is no Edmund Blunden Society, but a website exists at:

In the meantime, those who were not present at this year's event may be interested to hear that we have already provisionally fixed the date and venue for next year.  The 2007 conference will take place on Saturday, September 8th, at the St Bede Centre, Downside Abbey, Somerset, and will concentrate on Sassoon's later life and work.  A date for all your diaries!

March - Meg Crane, President of the SSF, gave a half-day school for the WEA at Tunbridge Wells, entitled "Siegfried Sassoon: the Path to Peace".  It was very well attended, and we hope that it will have aroused a lot of additional interest in Sassoon.
April - Christian Major and Phil Carne of the SSF Committee led a London walk, visiting areas and buildings connected with the life of Siegfried Sassoon.  See the page link above for photos of the day - it was so successful we hope to do it again next year.
July - The cricket match between George Sherston's XI and Matfield Cricket Club took place on July 26th at Matfield., with Matfield emerging winners by one wicket.  See the appropriate page for a report and pictures.
September - The 120th birthday celebration took place at Brenchley and Matfield on Saturday, 9th September, and consisted of a morning conference, an afternoon concert, a visit to Weirleigh (Sassoon's birthplace) and an evening dinner.
