My name is Deborah Fisher, and I first accessed wikipedia in March 2002.
I'd like to thank everyone who supported my nomination for sysop status. I'm also a bureaucrat (or biwrocrat) on the Welsh
version of wikipedia, where I now spend nearly as much time as I do in the English version. We have so much to do that my
lack of fluency in Welsh isn't a great handicap. If there are any Welsh speakers reading this, get over there - we need you!
WHY AM I HERE?
Some other users seem to feel that they should have the right to unprotect user pages, on the grounds that "there is no
reason for them to be protected". A user page is meant for that user. It is not an article, and the contents are not within
the public domain. We do not have the right to make offensive or insulting comments on our user pages. Beyond that there
is no reason for anyone else to edit our user pages, and consequently there is no reason for them to be unprotected.
Much of the time I normally spend on contributing worthwhile material to wikipedia and on correcting real errors and real
vandalism was being spent on disputes with other people about whether my user page should be protected or not. What a stupid,
pointless waste of everyone's time.
